APOLOGIES: First, let us say we are sorry for not posting in so long, we have been busy bees working away on the house, attending weddings, enjoying our summer and just taking a break from the exhausting task of renovating.  The next few posts will catch you up to date.  So back to the beginning of the year (2011)

The Great Flood

10 PM Sunday Night – Pouring rain outside.

“OH MY GOD…Josh get down here!”  I race down the stairs, “!@$#%  there is water everywhere.” There is water in the living room, in the hall and in the dining room. But where is it coming from?  What do we do, get a towel? Obviously that won’t be enough. Get the shop-vac! Still not enough. “Lex we need another shop-vac, call your parents and ask if they could bring over their shop-vac.”  An hour or so later all the water was gone and we had fans blowing to dry out the rugs.

6:30AM Monday Morning

“OH MY GOD…Josh get down here, there is water everywhere.”  I race down stairs, “!#$%^& there is water everywhere.” There is water in the living room, in the hall in the dining room. Where is it coming from?

 

Answer: The water was coming up through the uncovered toilet drain in the downstairs bathroom.  Why: There must be a blockage in the drain outside the house. Solution: Mike Diamond “the smell good plumber”.  After running the snake we thought we had the problem solved.  A couple days later, water coming from the toilet again.  The solution this time, let’s stick a camera down there and see what the deal is.

The Culprit: Tree roots from the Magnolia on the parkway had broken through the main drainpipe.  Just one more reason to add to my list of why I (Josh) hate that tree.

Time to dig:  The plan dig out all the roots, and replace the section of pipe the roots had broken through.  Digging turned out not to be as easy as shoveling out the dirt.  The roots from the magnolia tree were everywhere, so we resorted to using a sawzall to cut through all of the roots.

 

 

Two days later:  All roots gone, old pipe cut out, new pipe in.  Problem solved…. we hope. 

We put in a check valve so that any future backup will occur outside of the house!

        

Shopping for paint makes you hungry

With the house sanitized and primed an institutional white we began feeling like our house looked more like a hospital than a home.  This would be a quick fix.  COLOR.  Back to the Home Depot we go.  We literally spent hours looking at every possible paint color from “celery” to “carrot stick” from “strawberry rhubarb” to “citrus splash”, and the only real decision we could make is that we were getting hungry.  Not wanting to go through this whole process again we powered through and made our choices.

When we bought the house every room was painted the same shade of blue (except one that was pink). Now after three days of taping and painting, the Dining Room is Asparagus; The Living Room is Pecan Sandy. With the rooms upstairs we decided to paint each room three colors. The room that will be an office is Citrus Blast, Porpoise and creek bend and the Master Bedroom is Purple (I don’t know the name of the color it was Alexis’ choice) Porpoise and Creek bend.

With color on the walls now on to the floors!!!
